Houston Garrett

Oh how blessed I am to be the mother of a very sweet, healthy, happy little boy! I always wondered what it would be like to be a mom. Now I know what it's like for the first 7 1/2 months anyway. I liked the name Houston because it sounds manly and strong. Plus, Aaron was born in Houston. The name Garrett is inspired by my mother's maiden name. I always wanted to name a little boy Garrett, but since Garrett is also Aaron's brother's name we didn't want to be too redundant. Although we were not "planning" to have children so soon after our wedding, we really couldn't be happier about his arrival! It's really kind of funny to think that we are in control anyway. I know that we can make certain choices and all, but at the end of the day, it is God who is ultimate control. And thank goodness for that! Now that Houston is here we can't imagine what life would be like without him. He does so many sweet little things that make us feel like he is the smartest kid in the world! About two weeks ago his two bottom teeth started coming in. So far they are both just about half way in. They are so CUTE! Houston LOVES Cheerios! He can sit in his booster seat or his walker and put Cheerios in his mouth for as long as mommy will let him. He lets mom know when they are all gone by making a grunting/growling noise which some people mistake for a "pooping grunt". However, what I have learned is that when he is actually pooping he is pretty quiet as to not draw any attention to himself. Houston also like to stay busy on the floor, playing with his various toys. He really enjoys his play gym. He can lie on his back, looking up toward the ceiling and make his sweet high pitched noises as if trying to break the sound barrier or perhaps just the windows. He looks forward to bath time every evening and knows that it's about that time when mom puts him in his crib wearing only his diaper and urns on his mobile while she draws the bath water. He gets pretty giddy and silly and laughs very hard when mom sneaks up on him in his crib to tickle him. Oh what fun we have! What a laugh too! If I could bottle that laugh and sell it, I would be a monetarily wealthy woman and the world would be a better place. I tell you all of this just so you'll know how much I love motherhood, not because it is easy by any means. It is probably the hardest thing I have ever done b/c it has challenged me in ways I had never thought of while simultaneously being a newly wed. However, I can honestly say that with all the challenges and adjustments that the married life and motherhood have brought they have also brought the greatest joys I could have hoped for. I thank God daily for His wonderful blessings and pray that He continues to bless us richly with His grace, mercy and powerful love.
